What is Communication?

Communication is the sending and receiving of information between two or more people; the information conveyed can include facts, ideas, concepts, lies, opinions, beliefs, attitudes, impressions, instructions, emotions, etc. The person sending the message is referred to as the sender and the person receiving the information is called the receiver; this is a standard in the linear model of communication.

Nevertheless, communication is dynamic; people having a dialogue can be sending and receiving messages at the same time during transmission. Even when we have no intention to communicate that thought or attitude in itself is being sent out and received, therefore not communicating is a form of communication.

In Class Activity

It is difficult to collate and define communication because the words, actions, body language, tone etc., can divided and subdivided into multiple meanings. The art of communication is intricate and immensely essential but very hard to define as each individual has their thoughts and opinion on what is communicated by them and to them. During the class activity of matching definitions of communication, it became evident from looking at each group that communication is all-encompassing and personal as it varies from person to person.
